This week marked the 40th anniversary of Richard Nixon’s resignation of the presidency. But one of the darkest moments in U.S. history didn’t stop the President from trying to bring a lighter mood to the occasion.
According to Mashable, actor and “The Simpsons” voiceover extraordinaire Harry Shearer, along with Nixon historian Stanley Kutler, combed through thousands of hours of Nixon audio tapes when putting together the Sky Arts TV series “Nixon’s The One.” Below is one of the scenes from the series, which shows the President trying to bring a relaxed atmosphere to the resignation announcement.
