colbieIt’s a conversation I’ve had many times in the WGN makeup room -why do we wear this stuff?

Turns out makeup has been around for quite a while. A quick Google search of cosmetics history led me to the always reliable Wikipedia, who says the use of makeup dates back more than 6,000 years. That’s a lot of eyeshadow.

Singer Colbie Caillat has tapped into something with her latest music video “Try.” It’s not really a rallying cry against makeup (although at one point she does tell the listener to “take your makeup off.”). The message is really about defining where true beauty comes from. Hint: Inside, not out.

People Magazine has more on what inspired Colbie to put the song together

Caillat was inspired to write the song after venting to Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and two songwriters about the challenges she’s faced in the industry. “[People in the business] wanted me to dress a little sexier and kind of change the artist that I was,” Caillat told PEOPLE. “[Edmonds and songwriters told me] you don’t have to try to be someone else, because people like who you are.”
