Soldier comes home, surprises Philadelphia 76ers dancer girlfriend

Soldier homecomings never get old.

Army Sergeant Elliott Burgos appeared on the jumbotron at a Philadelphia 76ers game over the weekend with a special holiday message for his family, including his girlfriend who is a dancer with the team in her rookie year. Burgos has been serving our country from Camp Buehring in Kuwait.

What his girlfriend Angela DIDN’T know – he wasn’t just on the jumbotron. He had actually returned home and was waiting to run out onto the court and surprise her.

Here’s how it all played out…well done, Sergeant.

Packers fan meets woman who saved his life at Lambeau 17 years later

Green Bay Packers fan Chuck Wickert was making his first trip to Lambeau Field 17 years ago – and it turned out to be a visit he would never forget.

Chuck had a heart attack in the stadium and nearly died, but quick thinking and CPR from another fan saved his life. He spent nearly two decades after the incident wondering who that person was. He never had a chance to thank them.

Until now.

Fox 6 in Milwaukee has Chuck’s story and they were there for the big reunion. The other fan’s name is Marybeth Mielke, who was seven months pregnant at the time. Watch the full story below…

Jason Day’s 5 year old son has already mastered the bunker

The bunker shot is one of the most difficult things in golf. At least it is for me. Either the ball goes flying 30 yards past the green on a line drive or I get a face full of sand and the ball is still sitting there. It’s horrible and makes me want to never golf ever again.

Unless you’re the five year-old son of professional golfer Jason Day. Dash just lines up, swing effortlessly and plants the ball right there on the green. Maybe this was one great shot in the hundreds of other failed attempts but something tells me that’s not the case.

PokeCub: Cubs, Nationals NLDS gets Pokemon treatment in new video

What a weekend of baseball for Chicago Cubs fans. All of the excitement of that huge win against a seemingly unhittable Stephen Strasburg on Friday – followed by a really depressing loss on Saturday thanks to the gloriously-maned Bryce Harper and friends.

But no fear…because Johnny Fitz Live is here.

We introduced you to John Fitzgerald on the WGN Morning News last year. He was making these great 8-bit Chicago Cubs tribute / hype videos to get fans fired up. Since they won the World Series, I was wondering if he would be back. Well…he’s back.

Today he is releasing his latest creation – a Cubs/Nationals Pokemon themed video called PokeCub. It includes swipes at Bryce Harper’s upcoming free agency, Daniel Murphy lacking a ring, even Dusty and his Mark Prior usage. Check it out below…

And in case you’re not familiar, here are some of his hits from last year…

Cameraman takes 58-yard field goal to groin, keeps shooting

There are many things you need to be prepared for when working in LIVE television. Crazy hours. Last minute breaking news. Knowing where you need to be. Taking a 58 yard field goal to the groin.

Wait….what?

That’s exactly what happened to one unlucky camera guy during the Detroit Lions / Arizona Cardinals game yesterday. As Matt Prater booted the football….it sailed through the air and right into the most sensitive of areas.

Like a true pro….this man hardly even flinched and continued doing his job. We all flinched for you, good sir. Watch the highlight….

Prater made the field goal, by the way, and the Lions beat the Cardinals 35-23. (h/t SI)

BBC anchor gets lost in the studio during Hurricane Irma report

Early on in my television career, a colleague gave me some advice. He said “Know where you are. Know where you’re going.” It sounds simple, but in the world of live television, you just don’t know what could happen next.

Or when technology will leave you hanging.

Enter the BBC’s Tom Donkin, who was fronting a report on Hurricane Irma’s landfall in Florida. Donkin found himself rushing onto the set, not quite sure what camera to look at, before finally locking in to deliver his report. Nice recovery! Watch the video

Donkin says it was a “wayward camera” that messed things up. We’ve all been there….which makes it easier to laugh off….especially if it’s not you on the set this time!

Kimmel asks people to name ANY member of Congress, with sad results

Jimmy Kimmel sent his staff out on the street once again, this time asking people to name a member of Congress for a cookie.

Not THEIR representative in Congress. ANY member of Congress.

You can see where this is heading, right? An unsettling number of people couldn’t name one person. Of course, we don’t see how many people COULD name a Congress person. But really? Not one Congress person? At least it makes great television.
